2014 Grenache Mataro Shiraz

This is a wine that perfectly captures the smell of a vineyard during vintage – a combination of the vines, dust and earth derived from the spicy fragrance of Grenache, the juiciness of the Shiraz and the savoury aromas of Mataro.

Tasting Note

On the palate this wine give you juicy plum and black cherry flavours. Fragrant yet meaty, this is an elegant wine with a long dry savoury palate and firm tannins from the Mataro balancing the sweet Grenache and Shiraz fruit.

Vineyard Region

Fruit for this wine was sourced from our dry grown Auburn Hills vineyard, which features low-yielding vines that are more than 20 years old.

Growing Conditions

A long dry summer with extreme heat was broken in early February with up to 100mm of rain falling in some parts of Clare Valley. This resulted in near perfect conditions for the grapes to finish ripening. Yields were low but the quality was excellent.

Winemaking

Each component of this wine is fermented naturally in open top fermenters. Then transferred to old 300lt French oak barrique barrels for 12-18 months. The wine is then blended in tank before bottling. The blend is 40% Grenache, 31% Mataro and 29%
