Our mum, Jane Mitchell, was honoured as Life Member of the Australian Wine Industry in recognition of her outstanding individual achievements and contribution to the wine industry during her professional life.
For those who don't already know, Jane was one of the first female graduates from Roseworthy Agricultural College in 1978 and she has worked over 43 vintages to date. She played a key role in the creation of Clare Valley Winemakers Inc in 1976 and the founded the Clare Gourmet Weekend concept in 1985. Moreover, Jane was also one of the first appointees of the South Australian Tourism Commission. Ultimately, her contributions have helped to build and shape the future of the Australian wine industry and for that, we believe Jane is a highly deserving recipient. As the first female recipient of this award, we hope her success inspires and gives rise to other women in the wine community.
Over the past 12-18 months, there has been a generational shift occurring in our family business, with the third generation of our family - Angus, Edwina, and Hilary - taking the lead and chartering a new way forward.
Our family’s wine story began more than 70 years ago, when a young mixed farmer, Peter McNicol Mitchell, used his bare hands to breathe life into a small patch of vineyard. It was a long era of hard labour, with no modern technology available, combined with a lack of long-range weather forecasts to help predict seasons of great growth or spoil.
On Christmas Day, we will be cracking open 12 bottles of our Mitchell wines, and this year, we’d love you to join us in our Christmas tradition. So, here’s the wrap up of what we will be eating and (of course) drinking this Christmas. Get ready… it’s going to be a big Christmas!
Well heck… what a crazy year 2020 has turned out to be…
We have experienced a historic stock market crash, a frightful Summer bushfire season, and of course a global pandemic that has directly or indirectly affected everyone. With all that’s going on in the world, we think a little good news, wouldn’t go astray.
Generational change is active within many family-owned wineries, with names like Maxwell, Melton, Mitchell and Duval crafting succession plans that don’t just involve winemakers.
Father's Day is just around the corner and we have you covered with all your Mitchell Wines favourites!
So, in the lead up to Father’s Day, we thought it was time to put the tough question out there, and ask the fathers involved in Mitchell Wines what bottle they will be cracking open this Fathers Day.
What bottle will you and your Dad be cracking open this Father's Day?
For most of us, it’s the burning question on our mind every afternoon come knock off time.
Thankfully, tonight you don’t have to decide, because we have the answer for you! The correct answer is ‘WHITE’, because today we celebrate ‘National White Wine Day’!
