Mitchell 1999 McNicol Shiraz - Tony Love, The Advertiser Newspaper, March 12th 2007
It's rare to get an aged shiraz as a current release, so with eight years of maturity we see new depths of character, a juiciness that still seems fresh and cool, lifts of mocha and mint chocolate, a smoothness on the palate, lingering long and lazily. 14.5%.
Mitchell Peppertree Vineyard Shiraz 2004 - David Lawrason, torontolife.com
Prominent Aussie critic James Halliday gives this a 92. Though I often score lower than he does, I'm swept away as well. Explosive blackcurrant, mince-meat, chocolate and the black pepper that shiraz is famous for. Full bodied, initially sweet, then a firm, dry finish. Excellent length, power and poise. Now to 2014.
Mitchell GSM 2003 - Tony Love, The Advertiser Newspaper, Feb 20th 2007
When you see the GSM tag it usually means grenache, shiraz and mourvedre, but here the 'S' is sangiovese and even though it's a small percentage in the blend, it shows its earth and herbs traits in the engine block of the wine, sitting well with its trademark warm-blood line and spiced plum pudding richness.
Mitchell Semillon 2006 - 13% alcohol, screw cap, 93+++ points
The best of Watervale's priceless terra rossa on limestone or calcite or whatever it is gives rise to this remarkable semillon. Its wild yeasts, combined with that terroir, give the wine an alluring acrid edge the like of which I'd normally expect of Bordeaux or Sancerre whites. Then comes all that wholesome lemon-and-lime sabayon character which twists neatly around the finest seasoned french oak. it's very tody, determinedly individual wine; perfect for an Alsace-style choucroute with smoked wursts.
Mitchell Watervale Riesling 2007, Sip n Save promotion - March 2007
Over the last few vintages, Mitchell has consistently been one of the best Clare Valley Riesling's on the market. The fine, dry palate displays classic varietal fruit flavours of jasmine flower and lime that lead into a crisp, yet lingering finish. Zesty and refreshing on the palate, enjoy it with some freshly cooked garlic prawns.
Mitchell GSM Grenache Sangiovese Mourvedre 2003
Talk about more-ish! This blend is one to enjoy on its own or have with pizza, pasta or veal. It is predominatly red berries with a delicious savouriness, and touches of coconut, vanilla and spice. And check the vintage, it's already five years old. Rick Allen - Manly Daily March 2008
