Eight Outstanding Wines from a Variety of Varietals
“One of the stalwarts of the Clare Valley, producing long–lived
Rieslings and Cabernet Sauvignons in classic regional style. The range now includes very creditable Semillon, Grenache and Shiraz. A lovely old stone apple shed provides the cellar door and upper section of the compact winery.”
James Halliday, 2007
Recognised as one of the region’s best examples
of Riesling and produced since 1977, Mitchell Wines Watervale Riesling has intense aromatics, a fine dry palate with crisp acidity and lingering finish. Drinks beautifully both young and old (if cellared for 5–8 years). To quote one reviewer, it’s “as tall and dry as the white cliffs of Dover”.

From apples to grapes the imposing century–old cast iron gates open to the Mitchell family home and winery, which is built around an old sandstone apple store, in the western hills of the Clare Valley, a two hour drive north of Adelaide in South Australia. Classified in Australian terms as a small winery, up to 600 tonnes of grapes are crushed and processed each year in the well–equipped modern winery. return to the top
