2007 McNicol Clare Valley Riesling
Ripe lemon fruit with mineral and talc. on the bouquet; the palate is generous, but there is a restraint in the personality, as the flavour takes time to build and unwind across the palate; a textural and intriguing finish.
Rating 95

2006 Peppertree Vineyard Shiraz
Bright crimson–;purple; full–;bodied wine, with strong blackberry fruit and robust tannins; needs time, but should come through well.
Rating 94

2008 Watervale Riesling
Vibrant colour; delicate florals are offset by pure lime and talc. aromas; tight and textural, with a distinctly mineral core enhancing the lime fruit and focused acidity.
Rating 93

2007 Clare Valley Semillon
A rich bouquet; straw and savoury spice notes from the oak; vibrant and lively, with citrus fruit aplenty and a very harmonious finish, if a little oaky at this point; a very interesting journey ahead.
Rating 93

2001 McNicol Clare Valley Shiraz
A little development, but still very fresh; red fruit and a touch of mint, framed by an undercurrent of leather; the palate is soft and approachable, showing the value of time in bottle before release; very fine and even finish.
Rating 93

2005 Sevenhill Vineyard Clare Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bright redcurrant and cedar bouquet; medium–;bodied with prominent, cleansing acidity and tightly wound fruit; dry and savoury finish.
Rating 90

James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2009

2006 Semillon
Given complexity and structure by barrel ferment in French oak (mainly old) without compromising the grassy varietal fruit or delicacy; good line and length.
Screwcap.13%. Rating ***** 94 To 2016

2005 Peppertree Vineyard Shiraz
A restrained approach invests the wine with elegance and length; fine, supple mouth feel; fine tannins, good length, controlled oak. Screwcap. 14.5%. Rating ****+ 93 To 2020

05 McNicol Riesling

Tony Harper, Brisbane News
Just when I thought Australian riesling had hit its peak, along comes this amazing beast. It immediately joins the rarefied club of the Clare Valley super rieslings and I have a hunch that it trumps the lot. $45 at Cru Cellars and Wine Emporium, both Fortitude Valley.

Nick Stock, The Penguin Australian Wine Guide, 2009 edition 94 points
It’s terrific that Mitchell’s thought to put some of this stunning vintage aside for later release. There’s some handy early development building in the bottle, gentle lime toast and very complex minerals, pure and concentrated. The palate is founded on crisp acidity and candied lime flavour, showing the beginnings of creamy development and a neat savoury twist.

Sparkling Peppertree Shiraz NV
Light but bright red hue; nicely balanced, with a delicacy and freshness often lacking; plenty of spicy black fruits before a pleasingly fry finish. Multi-vintage, 4 years on lees; disgorged May 2006. Cork. ****+ Rating 93 To 2013

2000 McNicol Clare Valley Shiraz Medium-bodied, showing the expected development one would expect, the flavours moving into an earthy, secondary spectrum, supported by savoury tannins. Now or in 5 years. Screwcap. ****+ Rating 91 To 2013

2004 Cabernet Sauvignon
Youthful wine, with the cassis and blackcurrant of the bouquet and fore-palate still to mesh with the tannins; will likely be long lived. Screwcap. ****+ Rating 91 To 2024

2007 Watervale Riesling
Intense bouquet of herb, lime and mineral is repeated on the powerful palate; has quite grainy structure. Screwcap. 13.5% **** Rating 89 To 2013

2004 Grenache/Sangiovese/Mourvedre
Good colour; in typical Clare style, with strong spicy notes to the cherry fruits and lingering tannins; creeps up on you. Screwcap. **** Rating 89 To 2012
